Commvault Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CVLT) has unveiled an expanded collaboration with Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google Cloud platform, delivering enhanced data protection, expedited recovery processes, and improved compliance management tailored for enterprise customers operating in cloud environments. This strategic development responds to escalated cybersecurity threats, such as ransomware and insider attacks, shrinking windows for data recovery, and increasingly stringent regulatory demands confronting organizations as cloud workload adoption intensifies.

Recognizing the need for fortified data resilience, Commvault added new functionalities including Air Gap Protect — a feature enabling the secure storage of immutable backups within a virtually air-gapped and isolated environment hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure. This design limits exposure to cyber adversaries who target backup systems as part of ransomware schemes.

Additionally, the company introduced a compliance-ready Archive Tier targeting enterprises’ regulatory retention obligations along with requirements for long-duration data storage. This tier supports organizations in adhering to data governance policies and legal mandates by offering tailored archival solutions.

To assist in rapid recovery scenarios following disruptions such as ransomware infections or misdeployment of cloud applications, the partnership now incorporates Commvault Cloud Rewind through Google Cloud Marketplace. This tool facilitates swift reconstruction of cloud application environments and their critical dependencies, minimizing operational downtime.

Moreover, Commvault advanced its protection of Google Workspace environments by integrating an enhanced eDiscovery compliance search capability. This enhancement simplifies and accelerates the processes of identifying and exporting relevant emails and files required for audits, investigations, and legal proceedings, thereby strengthening compliance readiness.

Management emphasized the urgency faced by organizations to outpace increasingly sophisticated cyber threats targeting backup ecosystems. Rajiv Kottomtharayil, Chief Products Officer at Commvault, highlighted that the partnership expansion aims to provide enterprises with assurance that their essential data and cloud workloads remain protected, isolated from threats, and readily recoverable — ensuring uninterrupted business continuity.

The improved Air Gap Protect functionalities for Google Cloud are currently available. Meanwhile, Cloud Rewind and Google Workspace protection tools can be accessed through the Google Cloud Marketplace. The Google Workspace compliance search feature is presently in early access, with general availability anticipated in the first half of 2026.

From a market perspective, Commvault Systems shares experienced a 1.57% uptick, trading at $125.79 at the time of reporting, indicating investor optimism surrounding the announcement.
