Walt Disney Pictures revealed on Wednesday that its upcoming live-action interpretation of the beloved animated film "Tangled" will feature Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim in the primary roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively.
The original 2010 animation chronicled the story of Rapunzel, a princess blessed with extraordinarily long magical hair, confined to a high tower. Her structured existence is disrupted when she crosses paths with Flynn Rider, a charismatic rogue evading capture. The original voice cast included Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, contributing to the film's global box office results exceeding $590 million. Its success also inspired the short sequel "Tangled Ever After" and the Disney Channel animated series "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure."
Leading the direction of the new movie is Michael Gracey, recognized for his work on "The Greatest Showman." The screenplay is written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. An official release date remains unannounced.
Teagan Croft, an Australian actress, has earned recognition for her portrayal of Rachel Roth (Raven) in the DC series "Titans," as well as her role in Netflix's "True Spirit." Her co-star Milo Manheim brings prior Disney experience from starring in the "Zombies" franchise. He is an accomplished actor and singer, and the son of Emmy and Golden Globe recipient Camryn Manheim. Manheim also gained wider visibility as the runner-up on the 27th season of "Dancing with the Stars."
Reports indicate that the live-action "Tangled" project entered early development in December 2024. This initiative forms part of Disney's broader strategy to adapt its animated catalog into live-action formats, following titles such as "The Lion King," "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "The Little Mermaid," "Snow White," and "Lilo & Stitch," which notably claimed the distinction of the first $1 billion release in 2025. Meanwhile, a live-action adaptation of "Moana" is scheduled for release during the current summer.
