Art Rooney II, the current president of the team and son of the Hall of Fame owner, praised Tomlin’s steadfast devotion to the franchise. He highlighted Tomlin’s remarkable ability to consistently field competitive teams amidst an era dominated by parity.
"It is hard for me to put into words the level of respect and appreciation I have for Coach Tomlin," Rooney said. "He guided the franchise to our sixth Super Bowl championship and made the playoffs 13 times during his tenure, including winning the AFC North eight times in his career. His track record of never having a losing season in 19 years will likely never be duplicated."
During his early years, Tomlin achieved significant milestones, winning one Super Bowl and appearing in another within his first four seasons. The last of these playoff defeats came recently when the AFC North champions lost decisively 30-6 to the Houston Texans at home, marking the team's most lopsided home playoff loss ever. The game featured moments of frustration among fans, including chants urging for Tomlin's dismissal. This sentiment was less intense than the criticism he faced earlier in the season following a tough loss to Buffalo that left the Steelers at .500.
Despite facing criticism, Tomlin maintained his focus and the team rallied, winning four of their final five regular-season games, including sweeping the Baltimore Ravens to clinch the AFC North title, their first since 2020.
