In an incident that has stirred public and political attention, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, a 37-year-old mother of three and a resident of Minneapolis, was fatally shot by an ICE officer during a law enforcement operation on a snowy urban street. Macklin Good was a U.S. citizen by birth, originally from Colorado, and had recently relocated with her family from Kansas City, Missouri, to Minnesota.
Documents and social media content reveal a woman who identified herself as a poet, writer, wife, and mom. Her Instagram and Pinterest profiles depicted a compassionate and creative individual, sharing moments from her life including family photos, her interest in tattoos, hairstyles, and home decoration. Her online presence included a pride flag emoji, suggesting her affinity with progressive values and diversity.
On the morning of the shooting, Macklin Good had just dropped off her six-year-old son at school. While driving back with her current partner, they encountered a group of ICE agents. Dramatic footage captured by bystanders shows one officer approaching her vehicle, demanding entry and seizing the door handle. Perturbed, Macklin Good began to move her car forward, upon which another ICE agent, positioned directly in front of her vehicle, discharged his firearm at close range, firing at least two shots into the car.
Subsequent video shows a woman crying near the vehicle, emotionally distressed and identifying herself as Macklin Good's wife, underscoring the personal trauma resulting from this event. Attempts to communicate with Macklin Good’s current partner following the incident have not elicited any response.
Federal authorities affiliated with the Trump administration portrayed Macklin Good as a domestic terrorist who aggressively tried to ram federal officers. However, this portrayal is contradicted by accounts from her ex-husband, who described her as a non-activist with no known involvement in protests or similar activities.
Additional personal insights from her ex-husband paint a picture of Macklin Good as a devoted Christian with a history of community service, including youth mission trips to Northern Ireland. She was musically talented, having performed in choirs through high school and college, and academically experienced, having studied creative writing at Old Dominion University. Her achievements included a 2020 literary prize and hosting a podcast with her late second husband, who passed away in 2023.
Macklin Good was a mother to three children from two marriages: a 15-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son from her first marriage, and a six-year-old son from her second marriage. In recent years, she focused primarily on parenting but had formerly worked in various roles, including as a dental assistant and at a credit union.
Her mother, Donna Ganger, conveyed her grief and admiration for Renee, describing her as one of the kindest, most compassionate people she ever knew — loving, forgiving, and devoted to taking care of others throughout her life.
