Federal health authorities have identified a salmonella outbreak associated with the Super Greens brand of diet supplement powder, resulting in at least 45 reported illnesses across nearly two dozen states. The affected product, produced by Superfoods Inc. under the Live it Up brand, has prompted a recall of several varieties, including the original and wild berry flavors. Concerns relate specifically to products bearing expiration dates from August 2026 through January 2028.
Consumers are strongly advised to refrain from consuming, selling, or serving these supplements. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend discarding the products or returning them to their point of purchase for refund or exchange.
The timeframe for reported illness cases extends from August 22 to December 30, 2025. Among those affected, at least 12 individuals required hospitalization, although no fatalities have been reported as of current data.
The Super Greens supplements were distributed on a national scale, with confirmed salmonella cases reported from 21 states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The FDA is actively conducting an investigation into the source and scope of the contamination. Officials note that additional related products may be impacted pending further analysis.
Salmonella infection symptoms typically surface within hours or days following ingestion of contaminated products. Affected individuals commonly experience diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. While most cases resolve within a week without medical intervention, salmonella poses heightened risks to young children under five years old, seniors over 65, and those with weakened immune defenses.
